a friend of mine, Marquis, brought a Def Poetry Jam video to my attention. i had watched it before, but i really listened this time around. its the same subject as "Peculiar Evolution" by Dahlak Braithwaite, but a different approach to it.
i feel like every person should be obligated to watch this video at LEAST once in their lifetime. psh, i lied. maybe like ten times.
it spoke to me, hopefully it does the same for you.
"Nigger, Niggas, Niggaz" by Julian Curry
let it feed your soul. and then i ask that you pass it on, just like it was passed to me.
“a word used to exclude is now exclusively used to by the excluded and with it excluding its original excluders who use the slang to now gain inclusion into the group to which their group wanted to be removed from American politics and race, complicated and confusion..”
WOW. bow down to this man. finally, someone got it.
"he's everything I'm not. You know, he's my other half. Without him I'm not whole. You know the thing about meeting your other half is you're walking around, you think you're happy, you think you're whole, then you realize you ain't shit without him. Then you can't go back to being just a half 'cause you know what it's like to be whole."
i'm a confused soul.
i'm on the road to re-discovery
of self.
no matter how long it takes.
and i'm okay with that.
wise words from a wise woman.
For two or three years I was away from all social interaction. It was a very introspective time because I had to confront my fears and master every demonic thought about inferiority, about insecurity or the fear of being black, young and gifted in this western culture. It took a considerable amount of courage, faith and risk to gain the confidence to be myself. I had to deal with folks who weren’t happy about that. I was a young woman with an evolved mind who was not afraid of her beauty or her sexuality. For some people that’s uncomfortable. They didn’t understand how female and strong work together. Or young and wise. Or Blackand divine. -Lauryn Hill.
